
Ormond was born in Epsom (Surrey) as the daughter Josephine, who is a laboratory technician and John Ormond. Ormond is the second of five children to her parents. Her early performances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady attracted the attention of many. She then attended Cranleigh School and Guildford High School. After a year in art school she was transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art where she graduated in 1988. Ormond first made an appearance on British TV in the show Traffik The story revolves around the illegal drug trade that stretches from the far East into the streets of Europe. Ormond was the heroin addicted daughter of the main character, an official from the Home Office minister who was engaged in fighting the importation of heroin. This early role won glowing reviews.
